— A Delavan attorney believes her experience in front of the window will help her improve efficiency and customer service behind the window.

Carol Unger-Keizer, 47, who has been an attorney in Walworth County for more than 20 years, recently announced she is seeking the county clerk of courts office.

ďIíve been a practicing attorney for many years. Iíve worked with the judges and clerks for many years. Iím pretty familiar with the goings-on in that office,Ē she said.

Unger-Keizer, who started her own practice in 1992, believes her broad knowledge in the legal field would enhance operation of the clerk of courts office.

She said she would focus on improving efficiency and service by better scheduling court hearings to stop cases from getting backlogged. She also said she would ask clerks to help people who are acting as their own attorneys navigate the process and ask local attorneys to consider teaching classes about pro se representation.

Unger-Keizer is challenging Clerk of Courts Sheila Reiff, who has held the office since 1995.

The primary election, if necessary, is Sept. 14. The general election is Nov. 2.
