— Walks and errors cost Janesville’s American Legion baseball team a shot at winning the Father’s Day Tournament on Sunday at Riverside Park.

After going 2-0 on Saturday and remaining the only unbeaten team in the five-team tournament, Janesville lost twice Sunday as a result of numerous errors and 15 walks in two games.

Janesville lost to Manitowoc, 6-0, on Sunday morning, before dropping the final game of the tournament, 8-7 to Oconomowoc, in nine innings.

Manitowoc and Oconomo-woc each finished 3-1 in the tournament, but Manitowoc won the title based on its win over Oconomowoc on Saturday.

“We’re starting to hit the ball better, but we’re not a good enough team yet to make errors and walk batters, and still beat good teams,” Janesville manager Bob Schenck said.

“We’re improving, but we’re not there yet. We’ve got to shore up our fielding.”

Janesville came back to force extra innings against Oconomowoc on Tanner Moe’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, but Oconomowoc got a run in the ninth to win.

Tom Yaucher had three hits for Janesville against Oconomowoc, while Matt Fiedler was 2-for-2 with an RBI double.

In other games Sunday, Oconomowoc beat Beloit, 4-1; and Manitowoc defeated Milton, 13-7.

Janesville travels to Racine tonight for a Lakes Region 7 League game.
