Beloit Snappers’ Hermsen throws one-hitter

— B.J. Hermsen was four outs away from a no-hitter Thursday night.

Cedar Rapids’ Justin Bass singled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to break up Hermsen’s no-hit bid, but the Beloit righthander settled for a one-hitter in the Snappers’ 4-0 Midwest League win.


Hermsen improved to 4-1 on the season. He struck out three and faced only two batter over the minimum.


The Snappers got three runs in the fourth, including RBI singles from Anderson Hidalgo and Wang-Wei Lin.


Beloit will host Clinton in a three-game series beginning tonight at Pohlman Field.
