WCLO's Steve Benton reports on how the 4th of July celebrations in Janesville and Beloit are supported by both communities

RSS

— It's up to residents in Janesville and Beloit to make their 4th of July celebrations memorable. Both communities rely on community support in the form of monetary donations, no tax dollars are used.

The Rock Aqua Jays is sponsoring the Janesville celebration for the first time this year. President Joel Shapiro says in addition to the pyrotechnics display, there will be arts & crafts, food vendors, a garden tractor pull, and kids games and events.

Visit Beloit Executive Director Deb Frederiksen says the Beloit Janesville Symphony performs prior to the fireworks display in Beloit.

The Janesville and Beloit celebrations will each cost around $15,000. Contributions can be made through the organization's web sites, http://www.idayontherock.com/ and http://www.visitbeloit.com/.

You can also donate to the Beloit celebration by dropping cash into donation canisters around town prior to the 4th. Shapiro says they'll also have donation canisters available and any purchases made at the event will go toward support.
