— Beloit police are starting a couple investigations into recent gang activity on the city's west side.

Capt. Bill Tyler says both incidents occurred on the west side, the first shortly before noon on June 10th. He says two armed groups, believed to be gangs, confronted each other near the Cenex gas station and convenience store at Liberty and Garfield. No shots were fired but there were threats and Tyler says police converged at a house in the 1100 block of Garfield as the investigation progressed. Two male subjects were arrested and are facing charges.

Around six o'clock, Tyler says, police responded to a report of "shots fired" in the 1100 block of 5th Street. The suspects had already fled the scene, but Tyler says investigators think they know who was involved from witness descriptions. He also believes both incidents are related.
