Janesville Parker’s girls soccer team played state-ranked Kenosha Tremper even in the second half Thursday, but a five-goal outburst by the Trojans in the first half ended the Vikings’ season.

Jessie McKay scored twice, and Tremper limited Parker to three shots on goal in a 5-0 win in a WIAA Division 1 regional opener.

Parker High finished 2-17-1, but coach Amy Wargowsky was pleased with the way her team responded the last 55 minutes of Thursday’s game.

“I thought the girls really stepped up their play in the second half,” Wargowsky said. “We were passing the ball better and creating more opportunities.

“Tremper’s got a nice team, and we were a little intimidated at first playing on the artificial turf. That took some getting used to.”

Brianna Washington made 15 saves for Parker.

Tremper hosts Mukwonago in a regional final at 6 p.m. Saturday. The winner plays Milton or Waterford in the Lake Geneva Badger Sectional.

The Cougars finished with a 6-12-3 record.

“The difference in the game was they put the ball in the net, while we were putting it off the crossbar,” said Craig coach Bill McCabe. “We had our chances. We’ve had the same problem all year long. We’ve not been able to finish the ball.

“We’ll work on it, and we’ll try again next year,” he added. “I’m proud of my girls. They’ve worked hard, and they did so many things well.”

Craig goalkeeper Amanda Hamilton had 10 saves.
