Pitchers lift Albion past Cambridge
Albion’s Justin Lambert and Mike Nanstad combined on a six-hitter to defeat Cambridge, 2-1, in a Home Talent Southeast Section crossover baseball game Sunday.
The win lifts the second-place Tigers to 9-5 and keeps their playoff hopes alive.
Albion scored both runs in the fifth on Matt Millar’s one-out single. Aaron Laskowski scored from second, and Ben Everson scored from first on a throwing error.
Lambert allowed a run in seven innings of work for the victory. Nanstad blanked Cambridge through the last two innings to earn the save.
Laskowski had three hits in four at-bats and added two stolen bases.
-- Stoughton 3, Fort Atkinson 2—The Generals (11-2) lost for only the second time in 13 games.
The Merchants (8-5) held the East Division leaders in the Southeast Section scoreless through eight innings.
Stoughton scored a run in the first inning and two in the sixth. Fort rallied for two runs in the ninth.
-- Utica 8, Deerfield 2—Utica (10-3) kept its lead over Albion in the West Division race.
Utica had 12 hits, and Doug Vike and Curtis Halverson each drove in two runs.
-- Orfordville 7, Jefferson 0—Joe Lange and Grant Oldenburg combined on a four-hit shutout.
The Orioles (6-7) had eight hits, including two apiece from Joe Cox and Nate Riley.
-- Whitewater 11, Evansville 1—The Swingers (5-9) scored eight runs in the eighth inning to beat the Jays (5-8).
Whitewater had 15 hits. T.J. DiPrizio drove in three runs, and Ben Chapman added a pair of RBIs for the Swingers.
