Storms wash out most tourney play

Thursday night’s American Legion Class AAA District 7 Regional tournament game at Riverside Park between Janesville and the Kenosha Merchants was suspended after two innings due to lightning in the area.

The game will resume today at 7:30 p.m. at Pohlman Field in Beloit with Janesville batting in the top of the third, trailing 1-0.

Union Grove and Genoa City will finish their game before the Janesville/Kenosha game beginning at 5 p.m.

Janesville and the Kenosha Merchants are both unbeaten in the double-elimination tournament. The winner of the Janesville/Kenosha game today is likely to receive a bye into Saturday’s winners’ bracket game. The loser will play Beloit on Saturday morning.

Beloit eliminated Burlington, 6-3, on Thursday.

Babe Ruth 15s win

The Janesville 15s used a two-run homer by Tyler Campbell to defeat Northwoods, 6-2, late Thursday at the Babe Ruth State Tournament at Eau Claire.

Janesville, now 3-0 in the tournament, plays Appleton in a winners’ bracket matchup at 7 p.m. today.

In elimination games at 12:30 p.m. today, Eau Claire plays Marinette and Northwoods plays Sturgeon Bay.

Janesville scored three times in the first inning and never trailed against Northwoods.

Campbell’s homer keyed a three-run fifth that increased Janesville’s lead from 3-2 to 6-2.

Rain interrupted the schedule Thursday, pushing the start of the Janesville game to 10 p.m. The game did not finish until midnight.

n The Janesville 13-year-old tournament team was washed out at the Babe Ruth State Tournament in Sauk Prairie.

Janesville, 1-0 at state, will play Eau Claire at 7:30 tonight.

n Janesville’s 14-year-old team, 2-0 in state tournament, will play D.C. Everest at 1:30 this afternoon in Marinette after heavy rains postponed Thursday’s entire schedule.
