— Janesville police arrested a man Monday on a charge of first-degree sexual assault after a woman reported an attack involving a knife.

The 40-year-old Janesville man is accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman at 12:30 a.m. Monday at his home in the first block of Academy Street, Lt. Tim Hiers said.

The two had met each other that night and were at the suspectís home with another man, who had left, Hiers said.

The suspect then threatened the woman with a knife and cut a piece of clothing that she was not wearing, Hiers said. He also is accused of biting the woman.

The man left the home after the assault, Hiers said, and the woman went to the police department and reported the incident.

The suspect denied the assault under police questioning, Hiers said.

The man remains in the Rock County Jail pending an initial appearance in Rock County Court.

The Gazette generally does not name sexual assault suspects until after they have been charged in court.
