— The Bull at Pinehurst Farms course played tough Monday for several area golfers in the opening round of the Men’s State Amateur Tournament.

Dan Ozga of Edgerton and Stefan Johnson of Lake Geneva both shot four-over par 76s to lead area entrants. Jordan Elsen (Kenosha Country Club) and Kyle Murphy (Eau Claire Golf & Country) share the lead after opening-round 68s on the par-72 course.

Janesville’s Matt Behm fired a 78, while Mike Hesselman shot 79. Lake Geneva’s Alex Gaugert finished with an 81, and Richard Pfeil of Elkhorn shot an 82.

The 70 low scores and ties will survive today’s second-round cut and play the final two rounds Wednesday and Thursday.
