Albion routs Utica
Three weeks ago, Utica was on cruise control in the West Division of the Southeast Section of the Home Talent baseball league.
Utica was 9-1 at the time and owned a three-game lead in the West Division.
After Sunday’s 12-1 loss to Albion, Utica has lost two straight and saw its lead dwindle to a game-and-a-half.
Ben Praether’s two-run double gave Albion a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning Sunday, and Josh Eastman’s three-run triple opened the floodgates in the fifth. The game was stopped after eight innings due to the 10-run rule.
Eastman finished 3-for-4, including a double and a triple and four runs batted in. Matt Millar was 2-for-4 for Albion with three RBIs.
Mike Nanstad (5-2) picked up the win for Albion (8-5).
-- Orfordville 10, Evansville 5—Starting pitcher Alex Pratt delivered with his arm and his bat to lead host Orfordville to victory.
Pratt highlighted an eight-run fifth inning with a walk, two runs scored and a bases-loaded triple as Orfordville (5-7) overcame a 5-2 deficit to take control.
Pratt also pitched eight innings, struck out 10, walked two and scattered six hits.
Evansville (5-7) and Orfordville each scored a run in the first. Evansville added four in the third, highlighted by Craig Rasmussen’s bases-loaded single that drove in two of the runs.
Orfordville added a run in the fourth.
Jays pitcher Brent Cashore took the loss, working five innings.
Jon Frey went 2-for-3, scored a run and added an RBI for Evansville.
For Orfordville, Trevor Wallace was 2-for-5, B.J. Cook went 2-for-4 and collected two RBIs, and Brandon Smith was 2-for-4 and drove in a run.
