Eric Larson will continue serving as president of Blackhawk Technical College for another month, school officials said.

Larson had been scheduled to retire June 30, but he had told the BTC Board that if needed, he would serve longer, he said.

The board on June 28 voted to hire Tom Eckert to replace Larson.

Eckert, president of Bellingham Technical College in Bellingham, Wash., won’t officially begin his employment at Blackhawk Tech until Aug. 31, “because of current job requirements,” according to an e-mail from Blackhawk spokesman Len Walker.

Larson said he will serve through July 30. Sharon Kennedy, vice president for learning, will fill in between then and Aug. 31, Larson said.

Eckert also is expected to be here for the board’s August meeting, tentatively set for Aug. 18, and for the start of fall semester activities.

Larson will receive no compensation other than his regular salary and benefits this month, said Brian Gohlke, BTC personnel director.
