Whitson leads Parker gymnastics to tourney title

WHITEWATER — Erika Whitson’s dynamic gymnastics season continued Saturday.

The Janesville Parker High School junior won the floor exercise and the all-around to lead the Vikings to the team title in the Whitewater Invitational.

Parker finished with a score of 127.85 to win the six-team title, while the host Whippets were second with 124.55.

Whitson, who set a school record earlier this season on floor exercise, won the event Saturday with a score of 9.35. She also won the all-around with a 35.275 total.

“We had a really good meet but unfortunately our scores don’t reflect that,” Parker coach Cathy Lehmann. “I thought scores in general were low across the board.

“But it’s still nice to win an invitational title. Our kids had a good week.”

Whitewater’s Kim Stonewerth won vault and was second to Whitson in the all-around.

Milton’s Cassie Cropp was the winner on balance beam, and Elkhorn’s Randy Fuller won the uneven bars.
