A deal for life: Janesville residents appear on game show
On TV
Chris Lippart and Nicole Slowey’s appearance on “Let’s Make a Deal” airs Friday on CBS stations including:
-- WISC-TV in Madison at 9 a.m.
-- WIFR in Rockford at 10 a.m.
-- WDJT in Milwaukee at 9 a.m.
JANESVILLE On Dec. 12, Chris Lippart of Janesville appeared on “Let’s Make a Deal” at the Tropicana in Las Vegas.
Lippart chose between doors No. 1 and No. 2 and won an entertainment system with a 46-inch television, an elaborate music system and a Sony PlayStation video game system.
His girlfriend, Nicole Slowey, 27, of Janesville was in the audience cheering him on.
Two days later, Lippart proposed to Slowey. She accepted, choosing him over any number of men behind doors No. 1, 2 or 3.
It’s a sweet story, and if you’d like to see the happy couple together, turn to your CBS channel at 9:30 a.m. Friday, when the episode will be aired.
“We were directly to (host) Wayne Brady’s right,” said Lippart. “I was dressed as Charlie Chaplin and Nicole was dressed as a flapper.”
If you’re unfamiliar with the show, here’s the basic premise: Audience members dress up in costumes in an effort to increase their chances of getting on stage.
One or two people end up on stage with the host, and have to “make a deal” by picking from among several items.
“It was me and a little old lady from Milwaukee,” Lippart said.
The pair had to choose between an envelope with $500 and doors No. 2 and 3. Lippart had to convince his partner to pick one of the doors.
Door No. 3 contained “a really cool hot tub,” said Lippart.
“I thought, ‘How am I going to get that on the plane?’” he said.
But Brady let the two pick between doors No. 1 and 2 and gave them two clues: For door No. 1, “it moves;” for door No. 2, “it grooves.”
Lippart suspected that the clue for “it moves” was too obvious—contestants would immediately think it was a car. He was right: Door No. 1 contained a photo of the host attached to a rocking horse.
But Lippart picked door No. 2, which housed the entertainment system.
“It’s certainly a memorable story to tell our kids and our grandkids,” Lippart said.
Two days later at the top of the Eiffel Tower—across from the fountains of the Bellagio Hotel—Lippart proposed and Slowey accepted.
What a deal.
