— The Rock County Sheriff’s Office’s airboat was called to the shore of Lake Koshkonong on Saturday night but wasn’t needed.

Initial reports were of a car that went through the ice in about 3 feet of water near Koshkonong Mounds Golf Course, and the occupants could not immediately be found.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office had no information on the incident Sunday.

Sgt. Steve Selby of the Rock County Sheriff’s Office said the airboat arrived but was not launched.

Selby said he heard that ice fishers got disoriented on the ice and broke through, but there were no injuries.

The incident serves as a warning after several days of above-freezing temperatures.

“In this weather, I wouldn’t be out there,” Selby said.

I'm curious as to why Jefferson County apparently doesn't have an airboat (if they had to call Rock County for theirs), when the vast majority of the lake is in Jefferson County. When ever I've been on the lake, (a lot) the only patrol boat up and down the lake is Rock County. Just always wondered.
