Sauk Prairie's free throws sink Milton

Sauk Prairie made 20 of 35 free throws en route to a 61-49 victory over Milton High’s boys basketball team a nonconference game as part of the Badger Challenge at Waunakee on Saturday.


The Eagles (8-6) made 20 of 35 free throws to stay ahead of the Milton en route to a nonconference victory in the Badger Challenge at Waunakee


Nate Hammon scored 12 points and Sam McCann added 10 for Milton (2-11). Matt Rudig scored a game-high 19 points for Sauk Prairie.

n Waunakee 66, Monroe 53—Waunakee (11-1) won the battle of first-place teams by breaking Monroe’s seven-game win streak in the finale of the two-day Badger Conference Challenge at Waunakee.


The North won six of seven games, with Monona Grove’s 53-35 win over Reedsburg as the South’s only victory.


Waunakee, which has lost only to Baraboo, took control of Monroe (9-2) with a 35-24 advantage in the first 16 minutes of a game that was scored by halves. The Warriors, No. 10 in the AP Division 1 state ratings, made 23 of 29 free throws overall to stay on top.


It was only the third time this season the Cheesemakers gave as many as 50 points in a game.


Beau Murray and Jared Staege led Waunakee with 25 and 15 points, respectively. Bryan Tordoff had 20 to pace the Cheesemakers, whose only other loss was to 50-47 to Stoughton in overtime.

Waukesha North 73, Elkhorn 49---Nate Wood led the way with 29 points as the North Stars (9-5) controlled every quarter and handed the Elks (6-6) their fourth straight loss, 73-49, in a nonconference game.


Ryan Bowes 13 points for Elkhorn, and teammate Skyler O’Laughlin added 12, but the Elks suffered their fifth loss in six games.

n Lakeside 60, Belleville 56—Lakeside Lutheran held on in the second half to defeat Belleville in a Capitol crossover nonconference game.


The Warriors (10-3, 4-1) led 32-21 at the half, but Belleville (9-5, 4-1) cut the deficit to three in the fourth quarter but could not take the lead.


Jake Jarnigo scored 17 points to pace Lakeside. Craig Wilke scored 13 points and Zak Gartner chipped in 10 for Lakeside.
