— A lack of offensive production continues to plague the Janesville Bluebirds.

Rhett Skibba’s hat trick lifted Big Eight Conference leader Middleton (13-3-1, 9-1) to a 6-1 win over the Janesville high school co-op boys hockey team Saturday night at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.

Janesville (8-8, 6-4) has scored only three goals in dropping three straight conference games.

“You aren’t going to win many games when you score only one goal,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “But defensively, I thought we did some good things.

“For us, it comes down to the fact that to be successful, we’ve gotta do things pretty well. And tonight, we didn’t do that.”

Cody Iverson scored Janesville’s only goal with 21 seconds left in the game.

Janesville plays at Madison West on Tuesday night.
