— A state Department of Commerce grant may help Rock County with its economic development efforts.

The $100,000 grant goes to Thrive, the economic development enterprise for an eight county area, which includes Rock County.

Executive V.P. for Thrive, Sean Robbins, says they specialize in creating direct relationships between businesses outside the state, with those in the region they represent. They can also work directly with a county's economic development office, on "targeted recruitment efforts." The overall goal of Thrive is to "brand" the region and make it attractive to outside businesses.

Robbins says Thrive receives most of its funding from the private sector, but they also receive grants from state and local governments. The counties covered by Thrive include Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Green, Iowa, Jefferson, Sauk, and Rock.
