Hawkins comes through for Sun Prairie, La Follette downs West

Chris Hawkins topped off a big night in a big way for Sun Prairie High School’s boys basketball team.


Hawkins, a 6-4 junior forward, finished off a season-high 24-point performance by scoring with four seconds left Thursday night to give the Cardinals a 54-53 win in a Big Eight Conference battle with visiting Beloit Memorial.


Sun Prairie improved 10-3 for the season and 6-3 in the conference as it remained in a tie for third place. Beloit fell out of that tie in dropping to 5-4 and 7-4.


T.J. Evans led the Purple Knights with 19 points.

Marcus Henley had 16 points and Chris Padgett 10 for La Follette.


John Harth had 19 points and Vince Carey 10 for West, which got within three points in the final quarter.
