— UW-Whitewater bounced back from a lost weekend to defeat UW-Platteville, 73-63, in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball here Wednesday.

The visiting Warhawks (15-2, 7-1) suffered their first WIAC loss of the season to UW-Eau Claire last Saturday and dropped into a tie for first-place with UW-Stevens Point (16-1, 7-1). The Pointers defeated the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds 74-68 at Eau Claire on Wednesday.

Whitewater had problems holding off Platteville until they went on a 6-0 run at the end of the first half to take a 35-29 lead.

From there, Whitewater sprang back to life and led the entire second half. The Warhawks built a 12-point, 47-35 lead. The Pioneers cut the deficit to 47-42 with 11 minutes to play but could draw no closer.

Whitewater shot 59 percent (27-46) from the floor, holding the Pioneers to 42 percent (27-64). The Warhawks also earned a 36-22 rebound margin and made 16 of 21 free throws to 5 of 11 for Platteville.
