Johnson, Moore help Boilermakers end skid
The win ended a three-game losing streak that cost the Boilermakers a spot in the top 10.
Purdue (15-3, 3-3) trailed 32-28 at the half. But the Boilermakers opened the second half with a 15-4 run for a 43-36 lead and held on while the Illini charged back.
Illinois closed to within 81-78 with 22 seconds to play. But Robbie Hummel hit three free throws to ice the win.
Demetri McCamey scored 28 points to lead the Illini (12-7, 4-2).
The Boilermakers were assessed an unusual technical foul in the first half because they played guard John Hart, who didn’t appear in the official game book. Hart finished with 14 points.
-- (21) Ohio State 76, Northwestern 56—At Columbus, Ohio, Evan Turner keyed a fast start with five of his 20 points and Ohio State never trailed in rolling past Northwestern.
Turner, who flirted with a triple-double with 13 rebounds and eight assists, led the way in a 7-0 run to open the game for the Buckeyes (14-5, 4-3 Big Ten),
Jon Diebler added 17 points and Dallas Lauderdale had a career-high 14 for Ohio State, which has won the last 30 times it has hosted the Wildcats, dating to 1977.
John Shurna had 22 points and Drew Crawford 11 for Northwestern (13-5, 2-4).
-- UW-Green Bay 77, Houston Baptist 66—At Houston, Bryquis Perine scored 26 points and Troy Cotton had 24 to lead the Phoenix (14-6) to the nonconference victory.
Rahmon Fletcher joined the pair in double figures with 13 points for UW-Green Bay. Perine had eight assists and Randy Berry had 11 rebounds for Green Bay, which never trailed.
Mario Flaherty led Houston Baptist (3-13) with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Houston Baptist shot 46 percent from the field to UWGB’s 38.5 percent, but the Huskies took 15 fewer shots.
