— A 14-year-old boy was referred to authorities Tuesday in connection with a bomb scare at Edgerton High School.

The boy, a student at the school, confessed to writing the bomb threat discovered Monday in a boys bathroom, Edgerton police Lt. Bob Bolgrihn said. He faces a charge of creating a bomb scare.

Police found no evidence the boy intended to follow through with the threat, Bolgrihn said.

“We didn’t find any indication that something would have been followed through, but how do you know?” he said.

Police and school administration identified the boy Tuesday acting on a tip, Bolgrihn said. He’s confident the boy was the only person involved.

Students were evacuated Monday to the nearby elementary school while staff and police searched the building. They returned to class about an hour later.

The boy will be recommended for expulsion, Principal Mark Coombs said.

Bolgrihn does not believe the boy was involved in a bomb threat found in September in a different bathroom at the school, he said.

“I don’t think they were related,” he said.
