West's third quarter dooms Craig

Janesville Craig High School got caught in a third-quarter storm en route to a 76-57 loss to host Madison West in Big Eight Conference boys basketball Saturday night.


The Cougars trailed the Regents 30-29 after Myles Johnson sank a pair of free throws to close the first half. West exploded in the third quarter to hammer Craig 24-7 and take a 54-37 lead.


John Harth scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter to boost West.


Cody Dare scored 14 points for Craig and Johnson finished with 10 points.


The loss dropped Craig to 0-8 in the Big Eight and 0-11 overall. West improved to 2-6 and 2-8.

n Middleton 73, Beloit 66—The Cardinals (8-3, 5-3) made eight of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal a Big Eight victory at Beloit Memorial.


Michael Owen scored a game-high 28 points for Middleton. K.J. Evans scored 22 points for Beloit (8-3, 5-3).

Sun Prairie’s Jaron Schaffner led all scorers with 17 points.
