Waterford dominates Lakes showdown

The suspense in the Southern Lakes Conference girls basketball showdown between Delavan-Darien High and Waterford never materialized Thursday night.


The host Wolverines raced out to a 19-point halftime lead and coasted to a 64-41 victory over the two-time defending champion Comets.


Jenny Carriveau led Waterford (10-1, 5-1) with 17 points, while Alicia Santaja and Sam Hriban scored 10 each as the Wolverines grabbed undisputed second place behind Union Grove (8-1, 5-0).


The Comets (8-2, 4-2) got a game-high 19 points from Alana Cesarz.

-- Wilmot 52, Burlington 45—Wilmot’s Jackie Herman scored 22 points as the Panthers (3-6, 2-4) gained a Southern Lakes win at Burlington.


The Panthers led by four after three quarters, but Herman scored 10 of her 22 points in the final period.


Sarah Vozel scored 10 points for Wilmot. Linda Dickmann led Burlington (3-9, 2-4) with 17.
