Milton stops Edgewood, other scores

Milton High’s girls basketball team bounced back from its first loss with a key victory Tuesday night.


The Red Hawks pounded Madison Edgewood 20-7 in the fourth quarter to gain a 59-53 triumph on the Crusaders’ court.


Edgewood (6-4, 1-3) led 37-28 at halftime, but Crusaders were held to 16 points in the second half.


Liz Eide scored a game-high 21 points to pace Milton (7-1, 4-1). Amber Davis added 16 points, and Morgan Blumer chipped in 10 points.

-- Monroe 60, Stoughton 32—Ashley Hermanson scored 10 points as Monroe (9-0, 4-0), No. 1 in the Division 2 state ratings, had little trouble with visiting Stoughton and stayed atop the Badger South.

-- Monona Grove 49, Fort Atkinson 45—Jessica Schmitz hit Fort Atkinson with a triple play in Monona Grove’s Badger South victory on the Blackhawks’ court.


Schmitz a three-pointer at the first-half buzzer, made three free throws after being fouled on a three-point shot early in the second half, and then hit another three to end the third quarter.


Schmitz finished with 23 points to lead the Silver Eagles (6-3, 3-1). Lexie Weigand had 20 for Fort Atkinson (3-7, 1-4).
