Jones leads Beloit to win, men fall

— A 15-3 run in the first half helped Beloit College down host Lawrence, 65-44, in a Midwest Conference women’s basketball game Tuesday night.

The Bucs trailed, 18-17, when they went on their decisive run.


Beloit’s Faith Jones led with a career-high 20 points. Amanda Moore had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Mary Parker had eight rebounds and eight assists.


The Buccaneers return to Flood Arena on Friday night against Lake Forest College. The tip-off is set for 5 p.m.

Beloit men fall

The Beloit College men’s basketball team kept fighting back, but suffered a 59-55 loss to host Lawrence University in Midwest Conference men’s basketball Tuesday.


The Vikings made the deciding run, going from a 43-42 advantage to a 53-45 lead with 3:30 remaining.


Travis Towns, an Edgerton High School graduate, and Michael Horton led Beloit with 11 points apiece, while David Bremner added 10 points. The Bucs missed 10 free throws, going 9 for 19, while the Vikings made 16 of 33 from the line.


The Bucs return to Flood Arena on Friday to host Lake Forest College at 7:30 p.m.
