Edgerton hands Parkview first loss, other scores

Edgerton High’s girls basketball team sent shock waves through the Rock Valley Conference on Tuesday night.


Meggie Schmidt made seven free throws in the fourth quarter to lead the host Crimson Tide to a 59-51 crossover win over previously unbeaten Orfordville Parkview, the state’s fourth-ranked Division 3 team.


Edgerton pulled away from a 16-16 tie after the first quarter to lead 28-21 at halftime.


Parkview, which fell to 4-1 in the Rock Valley South and 8-1 overall, cut the lead to two on several occasions in the fourth quarter. Edgerton, 2-2 in the North and 3-5 overall, answered every time from the free-throw line. The Tide made 13 of 20 free throws in the fourth.


Schmidt led Edgerton with 14 points, while Brooke Ferrell added 11. Jennifer Gimmer and Tori Wileman scored 10 points each for the Tide.


Stephanie Aasen paced Parkview with 16 points, and Jenna Larsen added 12.
