Vehicle crash kills Clinton woman
Traffic fatalities map
CLINTON TOWNSHIP A Clinton woman died in a single-vehicle crash discovered early Monday morning.
Rock County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with the Clinton police and fire department and Beloit Fire Department responded to the scene at 5:47 a.m. Monday at 11939 E. County X, between Carvers Rock and Summerville roads in Clinton Township.
After hitting a snowdrift, 47-year-old Maria T. Palencia DeGarcia lost control of her 1996 Toyota Camry, which then hit a tree, according to a Rock County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Deputy Coroner Danielle Darr pronounced the driver, initially pinned inside the vehicle and unresponsive, dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, the release said.
She was wearing her seatbelt, and the vehicle’s airbag did not deploy. Unreasonable and imprudent speed and road conditions also contributed to the crash, the release said.

The county is responsible for plowing over 2500 miles of highway.

They can't possibly know where snow has drifted following the completion of plowing without citizen reports. My experience with that part of the county is that the large expanses of flat prairie (La Prairie township isn't just a name) permit a lot of snow drifting across highways, especially when you have light, crystallized snow that blows easily. Be careful.

I personally knew her! She was a great woman with the sweetest heart! She was on her way to work when this happened. She has left behind 5 children as well as 5 grandchildren and her husband that will forever miss her. They are working together, keeping each other strong and doing the best they can. Her youngest child is only 10 years old and now is without her mother. This is a huge tragedy to such a close knit family. Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts!

It's natural to want to find someone to blame, when it was a sad, sad accident. My condolences to the family of this woman.
ALSO: interesting comment iamqueenb. I have read comments exactly opposite from your view (that Dane Cty and Madison streets are WORSE than Rock Cty and Janesville streets). "I am very impressed with how J-town is completing snow removal. Living here, but working in Madison, you get an interesting perspective. Madison has, once again, done an abyssmal job of clearing the roads. In fact, during the biggie storm last month, it was amazing to see the roads in J-town clear, the Interstate clear all the way to Madison, and then you hit the beltline (Hwy 12-18) and it was, for lack of a better word, crap. Here's to the Janesville road crew. As for the unfortunate mailbox knock-down: sad, but, the city actually owns the parkway...anything you put there, you do so at your own risk/cost." by PJGnyc on http://www.gazettextra.com/polls/2010/ja... page.
