Whitewater women hand River Falls first loss

— UW-Whitewater knocked visiting UW-River Falls from the unbeaten ranks with a 76-62 victory Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball Saturday.

No. 13 Whitewater pulled within a half-game of the first-place Falcons (13-1, 5-1) at 4-1 in the conference and 11-3 overall.


The Warhawks led 37-25 at halftime. The Falcons made just 5 of 15 field-goal attempts but sank 15 of 18 free throws in the first half.


Whitewater, meanwhile, connected on 30 of 40 free throws for the game to 22 of 28 for River Falls.


Kelsey Henrickson scored 18 points and Heidi Sonntag had 17 for the Warhawks.
