— A 9-0 run to end the game lifted Madison West High School’s girls basketball team to its first victory of the season Saturday night.

Elise Jackson, a sophomore forward, scored 22 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, as the Regents pulled away for 62-53 Big Eight Conference win over Janesville Craig.

“She is very athletic, and we just didn’t have any matchups for her,” said Craig coach Mark Marsden. “She was on tonight.”

The Cougars (4-6, 3-4) tied the game at 53-53 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Regents (1-6, 1-5) scored the last nine points of the game in handing Craig its fourth straight loss.

“It was a one-point game with two minutes left, and then we gave up a turnover which led to a layup,” Marsden said.

Senior center Anne Morgan led the Cougars with 17 points, while Amanda Hamilton scored 11 and Kelsey Kennedy 10.
