St. Louis hands Jets second straight loss
The Jets bowed 4-2 for their straight second loss to the Bandits in North American Hockey League play here Saturday.
The Bandits’ broke to a 2-0 lead on goals from Jordan Bourgonje at 10:13 of the first period and 5:55 of the second.
The Jets tied it 2-2 on goals from Chris Volonnino and Ross Mauermann, a Janesville Parker graduate, but Janesville Craig graduate Danny Olszewski put St. Louis on top 3-2 at 18:38 of the third.
Olszewski, the Bandits’ leading scorer, sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:14 of the third period.
“We made too many mistakes,” Jets coach Dane Litke said. “When you make mistakes against St. Louis, they bury you.
“That’s why they’ve won three straight championships in a row,” Litke said. “They score, but we had opportunities and couldn’t finish.’’
Olszewski was pleased with the Bandits’ effort in two games against the Jets.
“It means a lot,” Olszewski said. “It means a lot not to lose a game to Janesville.’’
Both Olszewski and Mauermann would have enjoyed playing this series in Janesville.
“It would be nice because of the big crowd,” Olszewski said. “I’d know 75 percent of the crowd.”
Mauermann thought an at home series with St. Louis would be good for the Jets’ fans.
“Home games would have been fun,” Mauermann said.
