Middleton girls squeeze past Beloit

Kerry Gardner scored 26 points to help Middleton High get past Beloit Memorial, 54-48, in a Big Eight Conference girls basketball game Saturday night at Barkin Arena.


The Cardinals (9-2, 6-1) stayed a half-game behind first-place Janesville Parker, but the Purple Knights made them work for the win that set up a showdown with Parker on Thursday night at Middleton.


The game was tied at 36-all, and Beloit stayed close the rest of the way. Megan Slavish led the Purple Knights with 12 points.

Ashley Bartow led the Cardinals (4-5, 3-4) with 15 points.
