A seven-game winning streak came to an end Friday night for the Janesville Jets, but not without a fight.

Brad Smith scored at 6:30 of the third period to lead the St. Louis Bandits to a 3-2 win over the Jets in a North American Hockey League thriller at the Hardee’ IcePlex Arena at Chesterfield, Mo.

Janesville, a first-year NAHL expansion team, got two goals from Pat Dalbec but it was not enough against the three-time defending NAHL champion. St. Louis has now won 10 straight games.

“We’e a blue-collar team, and we have to work harder,” Janesville coach Dane Litke said.

“We wanted to prove that we could play with the three-time defending champs, and we did, but we didn't get the win. Our coaching staff was a little disappointed in the way we played.”

Janesville (18-11-2) converted on two of its first three power-play opportunities, but could not tie the game in the third on two more power-play chances.

Matt Wichorek suffered the loss despite making 19 saves.

Janesville native Daniel Olszewski, the Bandits’leading scorer, did not score.

The two teams will wrap up the two-game series tonight.
