Cougars' Loftus wins two events

Alex Loftus posted a pair of victories for Janesville Craig High School in a Big Eight Conference double dual meet with Madison West and Middleton at Middleton on Friday.

West beat Craig, 125-45, and Middleton topped Craig, 121-49, to drop the Cougars to 2-4 in the Big Eight.

Loftus set career-best times to gain victories in the 200 individual medley (2:02.83) and the 100 breastroke (1:02.36).

“(Loftus) is right where we want him to be,” Craig coach Brian Kitzman said of the senior. “He’s right in track, and we are real pleased.’’

Kitzman said the Cougars swam well for their first meet in three weeks.

“For three weeks without a meet, the guys worked hard and swam well,” Kitzman said. “We had a lot of best times.’’

The Cougars will swim next Saturday at the Middleton Invitational.
