Beloit women fall just short on road

— Beloit College suffered a heartbreaking 68-65 loss to host St. Norbert in the final nine seconds of a Midwest Conference women’s basketball game here Monday night.

In a makup from a Dec. 9 snow-out, the Buccaneers (3-6,


1-2) battled the Green Knights to the wire, taking a 65-64 lead on Amanda Moore’s layup with 27 seconds remaining.


St. Norbert (7-2, 2-1) moved ahead 66-65 on a driving jumper in the lane by Erin Baganz with nine seconds left. Beloit committed a turn over at mid-court, and Stefanie Bunday scored with two seconds left for the final outcome.


Moore finished with game-high 21 points, while teammate Diana Sopkowicz scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.


Krista Pelky scored 20 points to lead St. Norbert.

Men

St. Norbert wasted no time Monday night protecting its perfect record in Midwest Conference men’s basketball.


The Green Knights jumped off to an 8-0 lead in the first fouur minutes against visiting Beloit College, then went on to a 35-15 halftime lead and a


73-46 win that lifted them to 3-0 in the conference.


Dave Wipperfurth led St. Norbert (9-1) with 13 points. David Bremner and Edgerton High graduate Travis Towns each scored nine for Beloit (3-7, 1-2).
