ELKHORN A Milwaukee man will be back in Walworth County court next week on accusations of stealing credit cards from parked cars at two Elkhorn gyms.
The attorney for Robert D. Wheeler, 45, Milwaukee, on Monday requested a preliminary hearing for his client in Walworth County Court.
Wheeler, who is charged with nine felonies and 13 misdemeanors, is scheduled to be back in court Friday, Jan. 15.
He faces more than 57 years in prison and $220,000 in fines.
Wheeler is a repeat offender and if convicted could have his sentence enhanced by more than two years per charge.
He is accused of working with an accomplice who is yet to be charged, according to court records.
The woman, who was spotted with Wheeler, admitted to breaking into several cars with him and stealing a backpack, a computer case and two purses. She said they purchased two flat screen televisions and two video game systems using stolen credit cards.
She said Wheeler would break into the vehicles and give her the stolen credit cards to make purchases. The woman said they later sold the items in Kenosha.

It just means he's been arrested and arraigned. If she is cooperating with investigators, it would make sense that she gets an opportunity to plead to agreed charges. The DA and her attorney are probably going back and forth as they assess evidence, and it will depend on how necessary her testimony would be to his case. These things aren't like parking tickets.

If that were me, I'd be facing charges, no matter how accommodating I was with the investigators. Huh.

I wonder if he female accomplice hasn't been charged yet because she's going to testify against him and cut herself some sort of deal. She's admitted her guilt.
