Springfield sweeps Jets
JANESVILLE Jets swept at home
It was a lost weekend for the Janesville Jets.
The first-year NAHL expansion team lost 5-3 to the Springfield Junior Blues on Saturday night at the Janesville Ice Skating Center and were swept in the weekend series.
Janesville (25-19-4) fell behind 4-0 after two periods before rallying with three straight goals in the third. Kurt Akers got the Jets’ first two goals on power plays, including a blast at 16:12 of the third that cut the lead to 4-2. Janesville Parker graduate Ross Mauermann picked up an assist on the play.
The Jets cut the deficit to one with less than a minute remaining on Chris Volonnino’s even-strength goal, but the Junior Blues got an empty net goal from Denys Petrukhno with 38 seconds left to ice the victory.
Janesville will play a two-game series on the road next weekend against the Motor City Metal Jackets.
