MADISON Jesse Thielke earned his third consecutive Division 1 state championship Saturday night at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association individual state wrestling tournament.
Thielke (47-0) earned a technical fall over Justin Wolfenden of Brookfield East, recording a 19-4 victory in 4 minutes, 49 seconds. The defending champion at 125 pounds, Thielke also won the title at 112 in 2008. He has compiled a 137-1 mark over the last three years.
"I just wanted to dominate," said Thielke, who has compiled a 137-1 record over the past three years. "I came out here to win and to dominate and I did."
Defending Division 2 state champion Jarod Donar of Cuba City/Southwestern captured his second straight state title and remained unbeaten in his high school career.
Donar (48-0) earned a 1-0 decision over Clinton's Brandon Wixom (42-5) in their Division 2 title match at 125 pounds. The battle was a rematch of their sectional semifinal match in which Donar also won 1-0.
"It was a dream season, just like last year," Donar said. "I'm just taking it one year at a time. But now I start working on next year."
Donar was the defending Division 2 champion at 119 pounds. He has a career mark of 94-0.
Junior Justin Mudlaff of Random Lake lost his bid for a third straight title, falling 4-3 in overtime to Corey Hodowanic of Cornell/Gillman.
Division 3 champion at 112 a year ago, Mudlaff won the Division 2 title at 103 while attending Luxemburg-Casco in 2008. He has a 136-10 mark during his three-year prep career.
Janesville Craig junior Siven Furseth was looking for redemption after losing his Division 1 title match at 112 a year ago. He got his wish.
Furseth used a pair of takedowns to defeat Marshfield's Torin Boernke 4-0 and exact some revenge. Boernke defeated Furseth 10-5 in last year's title match.
"I'm excited because I had a shot at a rematch. I knew I could stick it to him and I really wanted it," said Furseth, the first wrestler in school history to win a state championship. "To have it come against him made it sweeter."
There were 12 repeat champions and 17 wrestlers who finished unbeaten. Among them was Kaukauna's Noah Budi (48-0), who was after his second straight Division 1 state title, advancing to the championship match at 189 pounds. He won the 160-pound title a year ago.
Budi earned a 6-1 decision over Muskego's Jordan Gruettner.

You are absolutely right but I assume this article was written by someone in Madison not Janesville. I bet you can find a few copies of this on other web sites. Hopefully the gazette will step up.

What about Milton's John Wells? He was also a champion at 103... Gazette has the state covered, but not the locals... Great Job!
