Janesville Craig’s Schneider wins all-around

MUKWONAGO — Becky Schneider put on a show at the Mukwonago Sectional gymnastics meet Thursday night.

The Janesville Craig sophomore won the all-around at the Division 1 meet to advance to the WIAA state meet at Wisconsin Rapids on March 5th and 6th.

Schneider will be joined at the state meet by teammate Sara Ennocenti, along with Janesville Parker’s Erika Whitson. Ennocenti qualified for the second year in a row on vault after finishing third with a score of 9.25.

Whitson was second on floor exercise with a 9.5 as the top five individuals on each event and the top two teams qualified for state. The junior also qualified for state a year ago.

The Franklin/Muske-go/Whitnall co-op team won the sectional title with 144.2, while the Burlington/Badger/Wilmot team finished second with 143.75. Craig High was fourth with 136.975 and Parker High was seventh with 130.625.

Schneider won the all-around with a score of 36.775, which included a first-place effort on balance beam (9.475), third on uneven bars (9.125) and tied for sixth on vault.

“Becky started out on beam and that started her out really well,” Craig coach Jean Welch said. “To win the all-around with the competition that was here tonight is pretty amazing.

“She was over a nine on every event, which adds up to a really good all-around score.”

Ennocenti fell on her first vault attempt but nailed her second, according to Welch, to earn a return trip to state.
