Craig’s late charge falls short of Verona
It would have been easy for the Janesville Craig High boys basketball team to hang its head after falling behind at Verona, 47-28, going into the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s Big Eight Conference game.
The Cougars, however, came out and scored 31 points and ended up putting a mild scare into the Wildcats before losing, 66-59.
“The kids played extremely hard,” Coach Mike Miller said. “They should be very proud of themselves.”
Brett Bates led the Cougar late charge with four three-pointers in the final quarter. The 6-foot senior finished with seven threes and 30 total points. Myles Johnson added 10 points, but the Cougars finished 0-18 in the conference and will take a 0-22 record into tournament play.
Kaden Naumen scored 16, and Bryan Dalton added 14 for the Wildcats (13-6, 16-7).
