Verona delivers Monroe’s first loss, other scores

Any hopes of an unbeaten season came crashing down Tuesday night for the Monroe High School girls basketball team.


Alli Tackett scored 18 points, and Verona’s defense limited the visiting Cheesemakers (19-1) to 18 points through three quarters in a 47-32 nonconference win.


Big Eight co-leader Verona (17-3), ranked seventh in the state in Division 1, led the top-ranked Division 2 Cheesemakers 31-18 after three quarters.

Liz Eide had 11 points to lead Milton (17-2) and Amber Davis added nine.


Eastern Illinois recruit Taryn Olson was held to six points for Memorial (4-14).

-- Belleville 52, Brodhead 32—The Wildcats (18-1), No. 5 in the AP Division 3 state ratings, held the Cardinals to single digits through the final three quarters to post the nonconfernce victory.


Brodhead (12-7 11-2) will play No. 7 Orfordville Parkview (16-2, 12-2) for the Rock Valley South lead, on Thursday at Brodhead.


Dana Lewis scored 12 points to lead Brodhead. Quinn Rear scored 14 points to pace Belleville.
