Monroe High School’s defense led the Cheesemakers into first place in the Badger South boys basketball race Friday night.


The Cheesemakers shut down visiting Fort Atkinson, 48-16, and took advantage Oregon’s upset of Madison Edgewood to grab the top spot by half-game over the Crusaders with a 9-2 conference record.


Kevin Frint led 10 Monroe scorers with 22 points.


Fort fell to 2-19 and 0-11.
