Beloit Memorial High School’s big third quarter paid off in a key Big Eight Conference boys basketball victory Friday night.


The Purple Knights broke away from a 29-26 halftime edge with 25-12 outburst that carried them past Verona, 73-62, at Barkin Arena.


Beloit (13-7, 11-5) got 19 points from K.J. Evans, the conference scoring leader, and 18 from Leketrius Broomfield.


Taylor Peterson scored 16 points to lead Verona (13-7, 10-6).

n Sun Prairie 53, West 48—Chris Hawkins scored 11 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter to help Sun Prairie hold off host Madison West in a Big Eight game on the Regents’ court.


The Cardinals (13-7, 9-7) never trailed but could not put away. Freshman Nick Fuller added 14 points for Sun Prairie.


Anthony Irby and John Harth each had 11 points for the Regents (4-16, 3-13.

n Memorial 76, Middleton 34—Second-place Madison Memorial (16-4, 13-3) led 20-3 after the first quarter and 35-12 at the half en route to a lopsided victory Big Eight victory over the third-place Cardinals (13-6, 10-6).


Junior Lomomba scored 17 points to pace Memorial. Tre Burnett added 13, while Vander Blue and Brendan Ortiz had 11 apiece.
