Janesville Craig gymnasts finish second in league with win

— Janesville Craig’s gymnastics team put a wrap on another successful Big Eight Conference dual meet season Thursday night.

The Cougars, behind a record-setting performance on vault, coasted past the Madison East/La Follette co-op team, 137.825-109.375.

Craig High finished 6-1 in the Big Eight and in second place behind Middleton for the third straight year.

Sophomore Becky Schneider won all four events plus the all-around to lead a strong Cougar performance.

“It was a good meet for us and a nice warm up for the conference meet on Saturday,” Craig High coach Jean Welch said. “We’re trying to add some stuff to our routines to make them a little more difficult and improve our scores..

“We broke the school team record on vault, and built some confidence heading into the conference meet.”

Craig’s combined scored on vault was 36.25, which broke the school record of 35.675.

The Big Eight Meet is at Madison Memorial on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
