Janesville Police Chief David Moore is pleased with the trends shown by the latest crime statistics.

Moore points to a significant drop in the crime rate starting in 2004. He says the most recent six year average for the number of crimes is actually 16% lower than the previous six years. The statistics reflect both violent and property crimes.

He says reasons include an aging population, more career criminals behind bars, and better training and methods used by police officers.

geez if all your scanners are going crazy this report MUST be wrong. im not sure why they even bother with stats and percentages when they just call the local stew hens for a report on how busy their scanner has been. i got a chuckle out of the posts tho thank you:) except for this one...

'Stuff the law breakers 5 to a 2 person cell who cares?! They are breaking the law and they lose their rights when they do so'

ummmm actually they DONT lose their rights when they break the law...unless all the sudden we live in cuba?? do we live in cuba?? 5 to a 2 person cell?? lucky one of the rights a criminal still gets is humane treatment. people who break the law are people who made mistakes. some worse than others but that doesnt make them animals...regardless of the holier than thou thought process of someone who thinks they know better...

I have a scanner as well and sometimes I have to shut it off because it goes non-stop. Crime is not down imo.

I agree with carlito, I also think they is more leniancy towards petty crimes in order to keep prison population down. I know that probation officers tend to be weak to put it bluntly. I know of atleast one person breaking their probation numerous times and probation officers say they would and will put the person in jail if it continues and it continued without that person being put in jail. Drugs are way up, I have called numerous times to complain about trafficing at certain homes and it continues. Mind you this is in a private community and the officers give the excuse it is a private community and there is nothing they can do. BULLSH1T! I have explained to officers what if drug deling happened up on a local business's property, they say that the person would be arrested. I asked the difference and they say it is a business property. I told the officers that the private community in which they won't assist in anything that it is a business as well but they still refuse to apply the law. The Police need to step up on their drug busting. They have done some noteable work but more needs to be done and start hammering the drug problem heavily. Stuff the law breakers 5 to a 2 person cell who cares?! They are breaking the law and they lose their rights when they do so.
More arrests need to be made now and the current trend of giving warnings is not acceptable even to keep the numbers of crimes in Janesville down for reputation. I would rather Janesville have a record number of arrests and show the outside populous that Janesville does not tolerate criminals.

Maybe less are being caught or reported as sometimes they don't even show up and attempt to take report via phone. Isn't drug dealing a crime? That sure is up in Janesville. I have a scanner and it is way busier now then it was a few years ago and is constantly dispatching calls. Just my opinion and I don't see much of a drop in crime just less reported in paper compared to scanner dispatches. Again JMO
