Kaether’s 3 nips Evansville

McFarland High School’s Brett Kaether swished a three-point basket at the buzzer to stun Evansville, 56-54, in Rock Valley North boys basketball Tuesday night.


The victory lifted the Spartans (11-8, 8-5) a game ahead of Evansville (9-10, 7-6) for second place in the North.


McFarland trailed 54-50 with 30 seconds remaining when James Runde hit a three to cut the gap 54-53. After Evansville missed a pair of free throws, Tyler Wedel moved the ball down the floor, found Kaether, and he hit the game-winner.


Kaether finished with six points on two three-point baskets. Tyler Wedel scored 19 points and Jordan Wink scored 10 points.


Casey Moseley scored 15 of his game-high 22 points in the second half for Evansville, while teammate Dylan Erickson added 14 points.

-- Edgerton 46, Whitewater 42—Danny Ozga hit two three-pointers early in the fourth quarter to put the Crimson Tide safely ahead in a Rock game at Edgerton.


Ozga finished with 11 points. Zach Nelson also had 11 for the Edgerton (8-11, 6-7), which split the season series with Whitewater.


Tony Bilderback and Mike Gabbey each had 14 for the Whippets (8-12, 6-8).

-- East Troy 79, Jefferson 59—Nate Dodge’s long-range shooting blasted Jefferson out of a Rock Valley North game and a season division championship for East Troy.


Dodge hit three three-pointers in the third quarter and the visiting Trojans improved to 12-1 in the conference and 16-3 for the season.


Brandon Schmidt had 18 points, Brett Bouman added 15, and Scott Beckwith scored 12 for East Troy, the state’s ninth-ranked Division 2 team.


Jefferson fell behind by 12 points in the first quarter, then rallied to within one and trailed 41-36 at half, before Dodge took over. Matt Vogel led the Eagles (3-16, 2-12) with 13 points.

-- Parkview 81, Clinton 66—Parkview senior Nick Melton scored 38 points, including 12 in the final quarter, when the visiting Vikings pulled away to extend their Rock Valley South lead.


Melton scored at least eight points in each quarter as first-place Parkview (14-6, 10-4) increased its lead over second-place Big Foot to a full game in the loss column.


Cody Risseeuw had 19 points, and Chandler Stevenson added 18 for the Cougars (10-9, 7-7).

-- Brodhead 60, Big Foot 45—J.J. Panoske scored 32 points to lead the Cardinals over the Chiefs in a key Rock Valley South game.


The loss dropped Big Foot (9-10, 6-5) a game behind first-place Orfordville Parkview (14-6, 10-4), while defending champion Brodhead (11-8, 8-6) moved within a half-game of second place.


Panoske scored 12 points in the second quarter to carry Brodhead to a 27-21 halftime lead. He also had eight in a 22-14 fourth quarter that put the Cardinals out of reach.


Jake Cole backed Panoske with 16 points for the Cardinals, while Alec McGreevy led Big Foot with 14. Michael Walker had 11 for the Chiefs.
