— Walworth County's family court commissioner and a former district attorney will face off in April for a circuit court bench seat.

Family Court Commissioner David Reddy led the primary election Tuesday with 1,951 votes. Former District Attorney David Danz took 1,843 votes.

Voters eliminated attorney Mark Bromley, who received 1,538 votes, and Geneva Township Judge Scott Letteney, who had 581 votes.

Reddy and Dance will compete for the bench seat of Judge Michael Gibbs, who is not seeking re-election. His third six-tear term expires this year.

“I think that tonight's vote … reinforces my talking points so far, that my judicial experience has shown through my commitment to community service, and I am ready to make a difference,” Reddy said Tuesday night.

Reddy has been the Walworth County family court commissioner for four years. He began his law career in 1987 at the Waukesha County District Attorney's Office. In 1992, Reddy went into private practice and worker mostly on civil cases.

Reddy said he wants to be more efficient about providing treatment for drug offenders to avoid jail overcrowding and prevent criminals from re-offending.

Danz of Williams Bay is a former Walworth County district attorney with 30 years of legal practice in the county. He has practiced law at the municipal, county and state levels and currently works as a private attorney.

“My main thing is experience and protecting the citizens of Walworth County by making law enforcement No. 1,” Danz said.

Danz previously said the circuit court must do a better job of apprehending and retaining defendants who have skipped on their bonds. He said repeat drunken-driving offenders should be assessed for community safety and risk before being released on bond and that they should pay the expenses of electronic monitoring and intensive supervision when they are released on those conditions.

Walworth County's Branch 2 is also up for election. Incumbent Judge James Carlson is running unopposed.
