UW-Rock County Rattlers win, advance in MCC tournament

— UW-Rock County pounded UW-Baraboo, 81-61, to open the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference men’s basketball tournament Monday at UW-Rock.

The No. 3 seed Rattlers trailed No. 6 seed Baraboo, 35-29, after the first half. Gabe Mitchell and Keifer Carey sparked UW-Rock’s second-half comeback scoring 12 and 11 points respectively.


The Rattlers maded 20 of 33 free throws to nine of 17 for Baraboo.


Cole Hulbert added 14 points, including four three-point goals for UW-Rock. Teammate Fred Steward added 12 points and 19 rebounds for a double-double, and Lance Hulbert chipped in 11 points.


The Rattlers (18-7) will play a second-round game Wednesday.
