The Janesville Bluebirds suffered a 5-2 loss to Sun Prairie to conclude the Big Eight Conference boys hockey season at the Janesville Ice Skating Center on Saturday.

Janesville finished the regular season 7-5 in the Big Eight and 11-11 overall.

The Cardinals’ Aaron Schmidt scored the game’s first two goals at 9:41 of the first period and 8:55 of the second. Janesville’s Sean MacDougall cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal at 9:13 on assists from Ryan Shelton and D.J. Mussey.

“It went from a 2-1 game to a 4-1 game in a span of 20 seconds,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “That is the big story of this game.’’
