Beloit Purple Knights win

Beloit Memorial fought off visiting Madison West’s second-half surge to post a 69-64 victory in Big Eight Conference boys basketball Wednesday.


The Purple Knights (11-7, 9-5) held a 16-point, 44-28 halftime lead, but the Regents rallied for a 24-11 advantage in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 55-52.


West (3-14, 3-11) continued its charge in the fourth quarter, taking to 56-55 lead, but the Knights went on a 9-0 run for a 64-56 lead.


The Regents cut the lead to 64-62 but Leketrius Broomfield made five of six free throws down the stretch to keep Beloit in control.


Broomfield finished with 18 points. Teammates K.J. Evans and Cameron Roegner added 13 and 11 points respectively. Vince Carey scored a game-high 20 points for West, while John Harth added 16 and Anthony Irby chipped in 10 before fouling out.
